Updated Suzuki XBee Becomes More Attractive and Durable

Design and Exterior Updates

Suzuki has introduced updates for its unusual compact XBee, which include a more modern design and an improved interior. The Japanese city car retained the combination of crossover toughness and proportions inspired by kei-cars, and also received a hybrid powertrain from the Swift and an all-wheel-drive option.

The most noticeable change is the redesigned front end, which looks more modern compared to the previous model introduced in 2017. The straight nose is equipped with semi-circular LED headlights, a thinner radiator grille, and a more massive bumper. The side view remained almost unchanged, while the rear received an updated bumper and new graphics for the taillights.

The base MX trim comes with steel wheels and covers, while the top MZ version received diamond-coated alloy wheels with an X-shaped motif. Buyers can also choose from a wide range of solid and two-tone colors, as well as additional accessories such as stickers, bumper trim, and alternative grille patterns.

Interior and Equipment Updates

Inside, the overall layout remained unchanged, but some important updates have appeared. A new 7-inch digital instrument cluster is now standard, which can be combined with an optional head-up display and a 9-inch touchscreen for the multimedia system. A new steering wheel with paddle shifters and redesigned air conditioning vents have also appeared.

The optional upgrade package adds artificial leather to the dashboard and door panels, along with water-repellent seat upholstery and LED interior lighting. Practicality remains a priority: the rear seats have sliding and recline functions, the luggage compartment floor and seatbacks are stain-resistant, and there are numerous storage compartments for small items and underfloor storage. Optional equipment includes heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and two USB ports.

Specifications and Safety

The XBee is built on the Heartect platform and is equipped with a new mild hybrid three-cylinder Z12E engine with a displacement of 1.2 liters, which is also used in the Solio and Swift models. This engine produces 81 hp (60 kW / 82 PS) and 109 Nm of torque. It is less powerful but more efficient compared to the turbocharged 1.0-liter engine of the previous model, and transmits power to the front (2WD) or all four wheels (4WD) via a continuously variable transmission.

The updated model received an active curve control system and improved dampers for increased ride comfort. Safety equipment has also been updated: adaptive cruise control and a lane-keeping assist system are now standard. In addition, the MZ trim is equipped with an electronic parking brake, hill descent control, a traction control system, as well as driving modes for snow and a sport mode.

Availability and Pricing

The updated Suzuki XBee is already available for order in Japan. The price starts from ¥2,157,100 ($14,700) for the base MX 2WD version and goes up to ¥2,500,300 ($17,000) for the top MZ 4WD trim.

The XBee update demonstrates how Suzuki continues to develop its compact models, combining eco-friendly technologies with increased practicality. The use of a hybrid powertrain helps reduce emissions and increase efficiency, which is especially important for the urban environment. The increase in standard safety equipment also reflects a general trend in the automotive industry, where driver assistance systems are becoming more accessible even in small cars.
