Spy photographers have captured the new ID. Tiguan during testing. This is a significantly updated version of the ID.4 with a new design. The model will switch to the MEB+ platform and will likely receive new engines.
Cessation of ID.4 production in the USA
Production of the Volkswagen ID.4 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, ceased in April as the plant retools for “higher-volume products that meet market demand.” Although the electric crossover has disappeared from the American market, the automaker previously stated that existing inventory should be sufficient to “support customer demand until 2027.”
Future version for America
After this, a “future version” will appear in the USA. It is known as the ID. Tiguan, and spy photographers recently captured a prototype during testing in the Alps.

Exterior changes
Disguised as the previous model, the electric Tiguan has a fully enclosed grille, which will likely be similar to the one installed on the new ID. Polo and the updated ID.3 Neo. More significant changes occur lower down: the model has received a new bumper that channels air to the redesigned side air intakes.
The lower air intake is also new: instead of a honeycomb mesh, it has horizontal slats. The crossover also received a new central sensor module.

Side profile
Moving down the sides, the profile looks quite familiar at first glance. However, upon closer inspection, a surprising number of changes for a facelift become apparent.
Notably, new doors and a flatter shoulder line have appeared. The designers have also added more conventional door handles and simplified lower cladding. We even see new third-quarter glass and a redesigned rear pillar.
Rear section
Significant changes continue at the rear, where completely new tailgate, bumper, and diffuser have appeared. These are joined by new taillights, which are hidden behind photorealistic camouflage.
Interior and technical specifications
Changes inside the cabin are also expected to be quite significant, and we can likely expect a new instrument panel, updated displays, and redesigned controls. We would also not be surprised to see a new steering wheel and higher quality materials.
The updates won’t stop there: the ID. Tiguan will be built on the new MEB+ platform. Also likely to appear are battery packs with capacities of 58 and 79 kWh and a charging power of around 183 kW. These will be joined by updated engines with improved performance and increased efficiency.
Of course, we will get a better idea of what to expect later this year or at the beginning of 2027.

Thus, the ID. Tiguan will become not just another facelift, but a deep modernization that will touch both the exterior and the technical underpinnings. The transition to the MEB+ platform promises improved characteristics and greater efficiency, which should make the model more competitive in the electric vehicle market. The design changes, especially the new doors and redesigned rear, indicate that Volkswagen aims to visually separate the new model from its predecessor, bringing it closer to the Tiguan lineup. The official presentation is expected by the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027, and then all the details will be revealed.
