How many Ukrainians died in road accidents in 2018

In 2018, 150,120 road accidents were recorded in Ukraine. This statistic was provided by the First Deputy Chief of the Department of Patrol Police Aleksey Biloshitsky. Compared to the previous year, the number of accidents decreased by 7.6%.

Accidents with casualties decreased by 10.7% – 24,494 compared to 27,220 in 2017. In total, 3,350 people died on the roads of Ukraine in 2018, which is 82 fewer than the previous year. The number of injured also decreased – from 34,667 to 30,884.

Aleksey Beloshitsky noted that in 2018, the number of patrol crews of the National Police was increased and the territory of their service was expanded.

Now 200 patrols control 6,500 km of roads every shift.

Also, traffic violations are being recorded using TruCAM devices, and over 25,000 violations have been noted in 2.5 months. In total, the Patrol Police issued 1.4 million administrative decisions and 168 thousand protocols of traffic violations.

Furthermore, a draft of a new regulation on road accident registration has been prepared. It is currently under review at the Ministry of Justice and will soon be sent to the Cabinet of Ministers.
