This is what the electric Range Rover GT looks like — it will not replace the Velar

New Range Rover GT: The Electric Future of Premium Class

For several months, Jaguar Land Rover has been testing a low vehicle that combines features of a sedan and a crossover. Initially, it was believed to be the next generation of the Range Rover Velar. However, as it turned out, the prototypes belonged to an entirely new, fifth model of the Range Rover family, named GT. We present its preliminary design for the first time.

The existing Range Rover Velar will continue to be sold unchanged in the near future. The Range Rover GT will be a separate model, initially offered exclusively with a fully electric powertrain, and later receiving a hybrid version. The car is based on the company’s flexible EMA platform and is clearly inspired by the upcoming Jaguar 01.

Design and Exterior

Visually, the GT shares features with the existing Range Rover Sport, particularly the low front end with sharp headlights. Importantly, it sits lower than the Sport and has a much more coupe-like profile. From the side, it somewhat resembles the Cadillac Celestiq, though only in overall shape, as it is noticeably shorter and more squat.

An Interior That Changes the Rules

The GT’s cabin resembles the highly controversial Jaguar Type 01, which has not yet been fully revealed but has already been widely announced by the British brand. As in that car, the GT features a striking steering wheel with thick horizontal spokes that likely contain touch-sensitive capacitive buttons. The airbag is located below the steering wheel’s centerline.

Furthermore, the switches appear identical to those used in the Jaguar. Also present are a thin instrument panel display and a large central infotainment screen suspended above a floating center console. The interior truly resembles no other car with a Range Rover badge and will undoubtedly be a major talking point for this vehicle. JLR states that the GT will initially be sold as a four-seater, but a rear bench will be offered later, increasing capacity to five occupants.

According to Range Rover Managing Director Martin Limpert, “The Range Rover GT will redefine the grand tourer segment, capable of delivering beautiful and exciting GT proportions, dynamics, and long-distance comfort, while offering capabilities that no ordinary GT can match.”

More details about the Range Rover GT will be announced later this year, although the brand is not yet ready to reveal when sales and deliveries will begin.

This announcement marks a bold step for JLR into the electric grand tourer segment, where the company is attempting to combine luxury, performance, and sustainability. The departure from traditional cabin design in favor of a futuristic one similar to the Jaguar Type 01 signals the brand’s desire for radical change. At the same time, keeping the Velar in the lineup indicates that the GT will occupy a niche as a more exclusive, dynamics-oriented vehicle, rather than simply replacing an existing model. The market will eagerly await official technical specifications and pricing to understand how successful this new vision for Range Rover will be.
