Collaboration between Porsche and SMEG in Creating a Kitchen Collection
Porsche and SMEG have joined forces to develop a retro collection of kitchen appliances, inspired by the legendary 917 KH race car. The collection includes:
Emotional Connection with the Brand
Imagine the disappointment of a wealthy Porsche owner when guests come over and their car is out on errands. The identity and pride associated with this brand can be recreated even in a home environment thanks to the new SMEG refrigerator, which can be considered the last ‘air-cooled’ Porsche model available for purchase.
History of Porsche Collaborations
While such a collaboration might seem unexpected, it is not the first for Porsche. The brand has already partnered with companies outside the automotive industry, such as La Marzocco, Norrøna, and ST. ALi. Furthermore, Porsche Design offers its own kitchenware, for example, knives and espresso cups. However, this collaboration is unique because it is the first time Porsche has ventured so far into the world of kitchen equipment.
Collection Assortment
The Porsche x SMEG collection includes the retro FAB28 refrigerator, a bean-to-cup coffee machine, a kettle, a toaster, and a blender. All items are finished in Porsche’s signature colors and feature characteristic details. The most notable piece is the Fridge 917 Salzburg, painted in the red and white livery of the 917 KH, the car that brought Porsche its first victory at Le Mans.
Limited Series and Design
Each refrigerator is accompanied by a plaque indicating its belonging to a limited series of 1970 units worldwide. The doors are adorned with matte black handles and the famous race number ’23’. The coffee machine features similar graphic elements. Additionally, buyers can choose refrigerators in Carrara White Metallic and Shade Green Metallic colors, which are complemented by black accents and a Porsche stripe.
Stefan Büscher, CEO of the Porsche Lifestyle Group, noted that the collaboration reflects shared values of precision and passion: “We create objects that are not only functional but also emotionally significant.”
SMEG’s Chairman Vittorio Bertazzoni added that the partnership “pushes the boundaries of what a kitchen appliance can represent.”
This collection can become part of the interior not only of kitchens but also of garages, where Porsche owners will be able to emphasize their loyalty to the brand. It demonstrates how automotive heritage can be reflected in everyday objects, combining functionality with aesthetics. Such initiatives expand the understanding of how brands can interact with their fans by offering products that go beyond traditional industries.
