The $63K drop in Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT’s value in one year makes it a bargain buy

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is currently one of the most powerful family cars in its class, having received the prestigious GT designation as a symbol of the highest standards. However, despite its impressive capabilities, it hasn’t escaped the harsh reality of depreciation. Earlier this week, the Cayenne Turbo GT changed hands for $174,000. Yes, that’s still a significant amount, but this beast originally cost $237,290, with several upgrades compared to the standard Turbo GT. After just 8,000 miles (or less than 13,000 km), it lost an astonishing $63,290.

And here’s the interesting part: it was purchased just a year ago, on April 15, 2024, and it’s still under full factory warranty. When looking at the window sticker, it’s clear that the original owner was interested in additional options, spending over $38,000 on upgrades alone. The most divine choice was the Burmester 3D surround sound system for $5,810. Other notable additions include the deviated stitching interior package for $3,770, the Night Vision Assist for $2,310, and the exclusive design headlights for $1,140. For those who love in-car entertainment, there’s also a rear entertainment system for $1,610 and an active parking support viewing system for $1,620.

Even the ventilated front seats weren’t included in the base price of the top trim—they cost an extra $850, because, well, it’s Porsche. The Cayenne Turbo GT features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 650 horsepower and 626 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that powers all four wheels. Compared to the new Lamborghini Urus, which starts at over $240,000 in the United States, the Cayenne Turbo GT seems like a slightly more affordable option. At the end of the day, while the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is an impressive high-performance SUV, its depreciation is a harsh reality.

Undoubtedly, it’s a great family car, but if you’re looking for long-term value retention, you might want to consider another vehicle that could hold its value better—say, a 911.
