Toyota Prepares the Premiere of a New Three-Row Crossover
Toyota has announced a major premiere, which will take place on February 10. It is about a completely new three-row SUV model, which is likely to be fully electric. This car could become the successor to the popular but already outdated Highlander crossover. The final decision regarding the name has not yet been made: the company may keep the Highlander name, add the bZ prefix to it, or introduce the model under a new name.
The Path from Concept to Production Model
The history of this car began back in 2021, when Toyota first showed the bZ Large SUV concept, designed for seven seats. Current teasers indicate that the production version is finally ready for release. Production of the model is expected to be launched at the plant in Kentucky, USA, using American-made batteries.
Exterior in the Spirit of the bZ Family
According to teasers and renders, the design of the new SUV will continue the philosophy of the electric bZ lineup. The front end has received LED optics, similar to that installed on the bZ4X, as well as a darkened lower radiator grille and pronounced vertical air intakes.
As shown in these renders created by Nikita Chuiko for Kolesa based on the original concept, the new SUV appears to follow the same design language as Toyota’s existing bZ models.
The side profile looks quite classic, however, the renders show very thin body pillars (A, B, and C), which should improve visibility from the cabin and create a sense of space. The car may receive either traditional or flush door handles. Recently, there has been a global trend towards abandoning flush handles, so Toyota’s final decision is of interest.

Interior Features and Seating Arrangement
Toyota has also released a teaser of the interior, which confirms the three-row cabin configuration. The shown variant suggests a 2+2+3 or 2+2+2 layout with separate second-row seats. However, there is a possibility that a version with a three-seat bench in the second row will be available for some markets, increasing the total capacity.
The interior has received a modern wide-format touchscreen panel on the center console, a separate digital instrument cluster in front of the driver, as well as a separate climate control unit for second-row passengers. Notable elements include lighting integrated into the door panels and a panoramic glass roof.

Market Prospects and Expectations
The new electric SUV is planned for sale in several key markets, with a special emphasis on the USA. There, it is to take its place alongside the regular Grand Highlander with an internal combustion engine. The model is expected to go on sale this year.
The appearance of this model is an important step for Toyota in strengthening its position in the electric vehicle market, especially in the family SUV segment. The company is betting on American production and supply chains, which could make the car more attractive to the local consumer in terms of price and availability. The success of this model could significantly impact the brand’s electric portfolio and show how ready Toyota is to compete with other manufacturers in this dynamic segment.
