The legendary 1986 BMW 635CSi Group A racing car, which won the “24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps” marathon, has been put up for auction with an estimate of 500,000 to 700,000 euros. This is approximately from UAH 22.4 to 31.4 million or from USD 565,000 to 790,000. RM Sotheby’s writes about this.
BMW 635CSi Group A won the “24 Hours of Spa”
The car with chassis E24 RA2-79 was built by the BMW team together with Schnitzer Motorsport for Group A racing. According to the auction house, about ten of these factory cars were created.
It was this example that won the “24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps” in 1986. During the race, the car started ninth but managed to overtake rivals from Ford, Volvo and Rover. This was the third and final victory for the BMW 635CSi model in the Belgian 24-hour marathon.
In the 1986 season, the car also climbed onto the podium of the European Touring Car Championship three times.
BMW 635CSi Group A retains its original racing livery
At various times, the car was driven by Roberto Ravaglia, Dieter Quester, Emanuele Pirro, Gerhard Berger, Otto Rensing, Thierry Tassin, and Altfrid Heger. Notably, Berger later became a 10-time Formula One Grand Prix winner, and Pirro won the “24 Hours of Le Mans” five times.
After its career in the factory BMW team ended, the car passed into private hands. From 2017 to 2024, it was restored and prepared for racing at the Swiss workshop Graber Sportgarage. At the end of 2025, Italian Pastrolli Classic Cars carried out a complete engine overhaul and installed a new clutch.
The total cost of the work exceeded 250,000 euros. The car retains the historic “Genuine BMW Parts” livery and has recently competed in the Spa Classic and Monza Revival races.
Together with the car, the buyer will receive an FIA Historic Technical Passport, archival documents from Schnitzer Motorsport, engineering records, and invoices for the work carried out.
