The First All-New Jensen Model in Decades Gets a Familiar Name and a Modern V8 Engine

British manufacturer Jensen International has announced its first completely new car in decades. The model has been named the Jensen Interceptor GTX, hinting at the legacy of the legendary 1960s coupe.

A New Era for a Legend

Sixty years after the debut of the original Interceptor, the company is preparing a car that aims to go beyond nostalgia. Jensen emphasizes that the GTX is not a continuation of the old model, a restomod, or an upgraded version. It is a clean-sheet development that, however, carries the spirit of the “great British muscle car,” as Jeremy Clarkson once described it. The debut of the pre-production version of the “ultra-high-performance special car” is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.

Note: The new Interceptor could make the Aston Martin DB12 look like a mass-produced product

Technical Base and Engine

The new grand tourer will be built on an aluminum chassis with a body hand-assembled from aluminum. The powertrain is a specially created V8 engine. Details such as power, displacement, or the presence of turbocharging have not yet been disclosed. According to Autocar, sources point to the use of a 6.2-liter Chevrolet V8 engine, similar to the one installed in the Corvette before the appearance of the 6.7-liter version. Regardless of the specific choice, the company emphasizes an analog driving experience.

“The 2026 Interceptor GTX combines traditional craftsmanship and modern technology to confidently assert its own contemporary character. We look forward to unveiling our first prototype very soon,” said David Durden, Managing Director of Jensen International.

A Personal Project and Analog Philosophy

An important aspect of the launch is the involvement of Jeff Quaife, the son of the late former owner of Jensen Motors, Kjell Quaife. For him, this project has personal significance.

“Jensen was a big part of my father’s life and our family history. A hand-built car of the highest quality will set new standards and provide a pure, high-performance, ultra-analog driving experience that the demanding clientele now demands,” Quaife noted.

The company is making very bold statements, especially considering it is a small firm without recent experience in creating completely new cars. However, if the finished product delivers even half the drama promised by its name, it could become one of the most interesting low-volume sports cars of 2026. The success of the Jensen Interceptor GTX will depend not only on technical specifications but also on the ability to recreate the same charisma and emotions that made the original iconic, while offering compelling modern qualities and reliability that were often lacking in cars of the past era. This balancing act between heritage and innovation will be crucial for the brand’s return to the high-end grand tourer market.
