First Reviews of the 2026 Model Y Performance Have Arrived, and They Are Divided

Official Launch

The new Tesla Model Y Performance has already started arriving on most global markets, including the USA and Europe. Buyers get more power, speed, an updated design, and an improved chassis. In the USA, the price is $57,490, while in the UK it is £61,925, making it approximately £10,000 more expensive than the Long Range AWD version.

Expert Opinion

Tom Ford from the British automotive publication Top Gear tested the updated Performance version. He noted that while the car demonstrates excellent performance, the advantages are not significant enough to necessarily choose this particular model. Ford emphasized that the standard Long Range version already accelerates to 100 km/h in less than five seconds, has a slightly longer range, and costs significantly less.

It’s not much better than the standard car

What the Update Includes

The Performance version received a number of changes intended to justify its price: split 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 wheels, red brake calipers, updated bumpers, and a carbon spoiler. Tesla claims this has reduced aerodynamic drag by 10% and lift by 64% compared to the previous model. The car also received a larger 16-inch infotainment system, carbon interior elements, and sport seats with enhanced support.

Technical Improvements

Under the hood, the Model Y Performance has reinforced suspension components, stiffer bushings, and adaptive elements. Ford calls this system a leader in its class but overall believes that the sum of all the updates does not make the car an unequivocal recommendation for buyers.

Practical Aspects

For everyday use, the Model Y remains a family crossover, and the additional power is not necessary. The speed characteristics are more appropriate, for example, in the Model 3. Furthermore, the standard all-wheel-drive Long Range version has sufficient dynamics, higher practicality, and a significantly lower price.

The Y is a family SUV, so the extra power isn’t needed

Potential Drawbacks

Interestingly, Tesla could have added more playful elements, such as simulated gear shifts or artificial engine sounds, like in the much more expensive Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. For now, we must wait for additional tests to draw final conclusions about this model.

The Model Y Performance updates undoubtedly make it more attractive to those who value dynamics and style. However, for most buyers, the Long Range version remains a more rational choice due to its better value for money. Innovations such as the adaptive suspension and carbon details enhance the car’s status but do not change its primary purpose as family transport.
