Ford Puts First Mustang Dark Horse SC Up for Auction
Ford recently introduced the Mustang Dark Horse SC model and is now offering a chance to purchase the very first unit of this car. It will be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale at the end of this month, so the price is expected to be very high.
Although the lot is not yet active, the auction winner will receive the car with Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) 001. It is important to note that all proceeds from the sale will be directed to charity, specifically to support the organization Breakthrough T1D, which is engaged in research and advocacy for people living with type 1 diabetes.
Barrett-Jackson noted that the car will be equipped with the so-called “Track Pack”.
Positioning and Design of the New Model
Details about the model are still being revealed cautiously. The Mustang Dark Horse SC is set to occupy a niche between the standard Dark Horse, which starts at $64,080, and the powerful GTD priced at $325,000. The car’s exterior has become more aggressive thanks to larger air intakes and a vented hood.
Features of the “Track Pack”
The optional Track Pack significantly expands the car’s capabilities. It includes a “ducktail” spoiler and a carbon fiber rear wing that provides 620 pounds (281 kg) of downforce at a speed of 180 mph (290 km/h). The model has also received a Brembo carbon-ceramic braking system and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires.
However, the pack is focused not only on aerodynamics but also on weight reduction. To achieve this, it includes carbon fiber wheels and a modified suspension where steel components have been replaced with forged links and a magnesium strut tower brace. Thanks to these and other changes, the car’s weight is reduced by 150 pounds (68 kg).
Interior and Powertrain
The Dark Horse SC’s interior borrows elements from the flagship GTD model, including a sports steering wheel with a flat rim. In the configuration with the Track Pack, Recaro front sports seats in leather and Alcantara are installed, and the rear seat row is replaced with a storage shelf. The trim also includes carbon fiber inserts, red contrast stitching, and a rotary gear shift selector.
The heart of the car is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Ford does not disclose exact specifications, but, for comparison, the F-150 Raptor R with a similar engine develops 720 hp. The Dark Horse SC is expected to be even more powerful.
This auction continues the tradition where the first units of special Ford Mustang models find new owners for record sums, while simultaneously supporting important social initiatives. The success of previous similar auctions, for example, when the first 2024 Dark Horse was sold for $300,000, indicates high demand and enthusiasm among collectors for the brand. The appearance of the Dark Horse SC further expands the range of high-performance Mustang variants, offering another level of extreme performance and track experience for the brand’s most devoted enthusiasts.
