Peugeot unveiled the electric hot hatch e-208 GTi
Peugeot has officially introduced the new electric version of its popular hatchback — the e-208 GTi model. This is the brand’s first fully electric sports car, promising impressive performance.
Technical specifications and powertrain
Under the hood, the new model features an M4+ electric motor with 277 hp (207 kW) and 345 Nm of torque. This allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h.
The 54 kWh battery provides a range of up to 375 km on the WLTP cycle. However, when using standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S sports tires, this figure drops to 352 km. The car supports fast DC charging at 100 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
Chassis and suspension
To improve handling, Peugeot engineers lowered the ride height by 25 mm and widened the track. The car features unique springs and dampers, a mechanical self-locking differential, and an additional rear anti-roll bar, complementing the front stabilizer from the standard model.
Exterior design
The exterior of the e-208 GTi stands out with a unique front splitter and an updated black diffuser with a rear fog light inspired by Formula 1. The car also features red accents, widened wheel arches, 18-inch wheels with a perforated design, and “208 GTi” badges on the rear pillars.
Interior and equipment
The red theme continues inside: red carpets, floor mats, seat belts, and stitching. The sports seats pay homage to the 205 GTi 1.9 model and feature a central red insert and red mesh reminiscent of the 205 GTi 1.6.
The steering wheel is upholstered in leather and Alcantara, while the displays and lighting are in red (though seven other color options are available). The car also includes a “sound accompaniment” system that changes with speed and can be turned off.
Price and competitors
The company has already started taking orders. The price in France starts at 42,900 euros (including taxes), making the e-208 GTi cheaper than its competitor, the Abarth 600e, which starts at 46,900 euros.
Thus, the Peugeot e-208 GTi becomes a serious player in the electric hot hatch market, offering impressive dynamics, modern design, and a competitive price. It is the brand’s first step into the fully electric sports car segment and demonstrates that electric vehicles can be not only environmentally friendly but also truly thrilling to drive. Given the growing demand for compact and powerful electric cars, this model has every chance to become popular among enthusiasts of dynamic driving.
