Start of Nissan Frontier Pro Sales in China
Nissan has launched sales of the Frontier Pro pickup in China, with a starting price of just $24,800. The vehicle is offered with three powertrain options: gasoline, diesel, and hybrid engines. The most powerful version—a plug-in hybrid (PHEV)—delivers 410 horsepower and can travel up to 135 kilometers on electric power alone.
Model Design and Technologies
The Frontier Pro attracts attention with its retro-futuristic design, especially the front end with a full LED light bar on hybrid versions. This model has become Nissan’s first global project developed and manufactured in China in partnership with Dongfeng. Its wheelbase is 3,300 mm, which is slightly longer than the short-wheelbase version of the Frontier for the American market.
Available Trims and Prices
The base trim at 176,900 yuan includes a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, and BorgWarner Mlock all-wheel drive. The second gasoline version costs 196,900 yuan. Diesel modifications with a 2.3-liter engine are available at prices ranging from 179,900 to 199,900 yuan. The most interesting is the PHEV version, the cost of which reaches 219,900–249,900 yuan.
Comparison with Western Markets
The price of the Frontier Pro in China looks particularly attractive compared to its American counterparts. For example, in the USA, the base Frontier version starts from $32,150 excluding taxes, while the Chinese model offers more modern solutions, including a 14.6-inch multimedia system screen, a digital instrument cluster, and an electronic gear selector.
Prospects for the Global Market
Nissan plans to export the Frontier Pro to other countries, although the Chinese version will remain unavailable for American buyers. However, the company’s management confirmed that a hybrid version of the pickup is being developed for North America and may be produced locally.
The appearance of the Frontier Pro in China demonstrates how quickly the automotive industry is changing under the influence of local markets. The availability of different engine types, including powerful hybrids, makes this model competitive not only in price but also in technology. The possibility of export opens up prospects for other regions where demand for compact and economical pickups continues to grow.
