19-year-old scammer bought a Porsche with fake checks
19-year-old William Chadwick Jones from Georgia has been arrested for a fraudulent scheme amounting to half a million dollars. He opened a business account at Synovus Bank and deposited five counterfeit checks totaling $545,770.97. He spent part of these funds on purchasing a Porsche, as well as on paying for legal services in another case.
According to police, Jones transferred funds through various payment systems and debit operations. He was apprehended while behind the wheel of the new Porsche. The case was handed over to the Columbus police, where the bank’s headquarters is located. He is charged with “Theft by Deception” — a crime that could lead to a lengthy imprisonment.
“This is not the first time premium cars have been part of major scams”
Similar stories are not uncommon. For example, it was previously revealed that Revolve CEO Michael Mente transferred $5.4 million to a scammer for a Mercedes-AMG One, which the scammer did not actually possess. This is already the second similar fraud involving this criminal.
Schemes involving luxury cars often attract attention due to the significant sums and the recklessness of the criminals. In this case, the young man will now have to answer for his actions before the law, and his Porsche will likely become part of the evidence in the case.
