Teenager Owned New Audi S5 for Only Four Days, and That Proved Too Much

A Dangerous Combination

The story of a 19-year-old driver from Nebraska clearly demonstrates why teenagers and powerful cars are better off not meeting. The young man not only ended up behind bars but also lost his new car, which he had only managed to enjoy for four days.

Record Speed and Dangerous Maneuvers

Representatives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported that patrol officers spotted an Audi S5 in Omaha traveling at a speed of 133 miles per hour (214 km/h). The situation was worsened by the fact that the driver began “threading” through traffic, darting between six other cars to get into the fast lane without using turn signals.

Patrol officers described the incident as a “dangerous display” that was so fast “the laser speed gun had to double-check this absurd figure.”

Short Ownership and Serious Consequences

After the vehicle was stopped, it was revealed that the driver’s name was Tanner Jones and that he had purchased this car on December 30. Since the incident occurred on January 3, he had owned the car for only four days. Law enforcement did not spare him: Jones was arrested for willful reckless driving, failure to use a turn signal, lack of proof of insurance, and speeding over 36 miles per hour (58 km/h).

Legal and Financial Losses

For the first offense of willful reckless driving in Nebraska, the penalty is a one-month disqualification, and the driver’s license may be revoked for a period from one month to a year. The fine for speeding is $400, and the two other violations also carry their own consequences. However, the greatest loss was the confiscation of the car, the redemption of which from the impound lot can be very expensive.

A Swift End to the “Honeymoon”

Law enforcement representatives added that this story is a classic case of combining a new car with poor decisions. The incident happened so quickly after the purchase that one could say the driver didn’t even have time to truly get acquainted with the capabilities of his sports sedan.

Unfortunately, similar cases are not unique. They often happen with young drivers who gain access to powerful machinery without sufficient experience and a sense of responsibility. The legislation in many states, including Nebraska, is gradually increasing penalties for reckless driving, especially when it threatens the lives of other road users. Vehicle confiscation, as in this case, is becoming an increasingly common measure to combat such violations, as it deprives the driver of the instrument of the offense instantly and for a long term. This story can serve as a harsh but useful lesson not only for the driver himself but also for his peers.
