Pininfarina Revives the First NSX in a Way Honda Never Would

Update: After the first round of cryptic teasers, Pininfarina and JAS Motorsport have released clearer images of their reimagined Honda NSX, officially confirming its name — Tensei, which translates from Japanese as “rebirth” or “reincarnation”.

Although we are still limited to teaser materials, the two companies confirmed that the new supercar was presented to a private group of clients at Fuji Speedway in November, suggesting they may already be taking orders.

The original article continues below.

In 1984, Honda and Pininfarina joined forces to create the HP-X, a mid-engine sports car that later evolved into the revolutionary NSX. Now, more than 40 years later, Pininfarina together with the Italian company JAS Motorsport is reimagining the Honda / Acura NSX, and we have received the first images.

Two teaser shots show a design that, fortunately, does not stray too far from the original NSX but corrects some outdated aspects and adds character. Yes, the black cockpit remains, as do the pop-up headlights, the rear spoiler hoop, and the basic rear light graphics.

But the more you look, the more changes you notice. The body, completely new and made of carbon fiber, has become more muscular and features ventilation outlets behind the extended front fenders.

The air intakes on the rear pillars have become larger, and a ventilation opening has appeared on the front hood, similar to the one on the mighty first-generation NSX-R (NA2).

But what truly transforms this update is the significantly improved stance. The original NSX had a narrow rear track and a strangely long rear overhang, and although it’s difficult to fully assess the shape and proportions from just two teaser images, this new interpretation looks much better.

It also proudly wears JAS badges, not Honda ones, which should satisfy Honda’s lawyers.

Pininfarina hasn’t let us look inside the still-unnamed car yet but states that it is indeed a road car, not a spartan track version — perhaps one is planned for later.

The original 1991 Acura NSX, sold worldwide as a Honda.

We know it will receive a modified version of the Honda V6, and one can be confident that its power will exceed the 270 PS (274 hp) that Honda and Acura claimed for the original 3.0-liter engine in 1990.

It will also be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and will be available in both left-hand and right-hand drive, although the production numbers or price are not yet known.

Undoubtedly, we will learn more in the coming months, and Pininfarina reports that a full global unveiling will take place in the first half of 2026.

This means next year will be incredible for NSX fans, as Pininfarina’s competitor, Italdesign, began teasing its own reimagined NSX earlier this month, which includes a roof vent in the style of the NSX-R GT.
