Toyota GR Corolla Airbags Deploy Without Accident, But Manufacturer Claims It’s Normal

Unexpected Airbag Deployment in Toyota GR Corolla

In May of this year, just 23 days after purchasing a new GR Corolla, the driver faced an unexpected situation – the side airbags activated for no apparent reason. According to the owner, he was driving straight, did not hit any potholes, and did not collide with any obstacles.

The first attempt to repair the car was unsuccessful – the workshop refused to work on the vehicle, advising to contact the dealer. However, the official Toyota service center in Daytona Beach also did not provide assistance, claiming that the system had functioned correctly.

Toyota’s Explanation

“Airbags are a predictive system. They can activate when sensors detect a potential rollover, even if an actual rollover did not occur”

The company analyzed data from the Event Data Recorder (EDR) and the car’s cameras but found no malfunctions. This decision effectively made repair impossible without financial costs from the owner.

Previous Safety Issues

This is not the first time the safety systems of the Toyota GR Corolla have demonstrated excessive sensitivity. There have been previously recorded situations where the car sent a signal to emergency services due to a minor impact of a helmet against the body pillar during a test drive.

The car owner has already contacted lawyers. So far, Toyota has not provided additional comments on this specific case, but the incident raises serious questions about the reliability of the safety systems in this model. In recent years, the company has already recalled hundreds of thousands of cars due to airbag problems, making this situation particularly alarming for GR Corolla owners.
