The Loop Transportation System high-speed tunnel was first discussed five years ago. Back then, Elon Musk positioned the underground route as a revolutionary structure, with no analogs in the world. Tesla electric cars were supposed to transport visitors of the Las Vegas convention center at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour to any part of the building situated above ground. Two years after the start of construction, the underground tunnel welcomed its first visitors. But like the first pancake, as usual…

In reality, it turned out that the innovative underground structure consists of two one-way tunnels located 12 meters deep. The entire route connects only three stations. But the main disappointment was the speed regime. Instead of the promised 200 kilometers per hour, drivers could only move at a speed of no more than 60 kilometers per hour. Moreover, reaching higher speeds was simply impossible since the electric cars constantly crowded each other.

Despite the failed launch, specialists from The Boring Company, who were responsible for the tunnel’s construction, claim that such an underground route can transport 4,400 passengers per hour. But for this, it’s necessary to expand the transport system. However, experts doubt the necessity of continuing the project. After all, every one and a half kilometers of the Loop Transportation System tunnel will cost $1 billion.

Tunnel, shmunnel… another tunnel at a depth of 12 meters? The depth of the Arsenalna metro station in Kyiv is 105 meters. And by the way, it has been the deepest in the world for several decades now. How do you like that, Elon Musk?
