After a cold April, there was hope that the last month of spring would be very warm. And indeed, there were a few almost summer-like days in May, but relatively short warm spells were always followed by cold snaps – and so on in a cycle. And again, after long, persistent rains, we await warming. It will happen, but not quite as we expected – temperatures across most of the country will rise by just a few degrees, rains will become localized, and there won’t be that many of them.
On Friday, May 21, during the day it will be +17…+18°C, only Luhansk and Donetsk regions will be different – there it will be up to +23°C. Rains may occur this day in Rivne, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Odessa regions.
On Saturday, the weather will be slightly better, with air temperatures rising to +19…+24°C, however, rains still won’t leave Ukraine, occurring on May 22 in the western regions.
On Sunday, May 23, rains will return in the western, partially in central and northern regions, from +14°C in western Ukraine to +25…+28°C in the east, in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.
On Monday, May 24, according to the forecast by Sinoptik.ua, the air temperature throughout Ukraine will be +20…+24°C, with a hot spot up to +26°C on the coast of the Azov Sea. Thunderstorms with rain will occur in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions.
The long-awaited hot temperatures won’t arrive soon. Beach weather with temperatures up to +28°C will set in the east and south of Ukraine by Wednesday, May 26, at the full moon. One could start sunbathing, but swimming might still be uncomfortable – the water temperature in the Dnipro near Kyiv is +16°C, in Desna near Chernihiv +17°C, in the Azov Sea near Mariupol +17°C, in the Black Sea near Odessa +14°C. The swimming season will start when the water warms up to +22°C, with the hot weather, this will happen at resorts of the Black and Azov Seas by June 15-20.
Western region: on Friday, daytime temperature +15…+19°C; on Saturday in Lviv region and Transcarpathia, with local rains, the rest of the territory will have +20…+21°C; on Sunday, May 23, during the day +11…+13°C, afternoon rains, except for Chernivtsi region; on Monday +17…+20°C, without precipitation. Only on Tuesday, warming up to +25…+27°C is expected, but on Wednesday cooling will return.
In the central regions, on Friday morning it will still be very cold +12…+15°C, during the day up to +19°C. On Saturday, the weather will please the residents of the center: air temperatures up to +22°C, sunny, without precipitation. On May 23, the sky will be covered with clouds, temperatures will decrease but not significantly, to +19…+21°C. Vinnytsia region will stand out from the general weather picture in the central region with rains, and a decrease in daytime temperature to +17°C. At the beginning of the workweek, in Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions, rains are possible. Daytime temperature in the region is +18…+20°C.
In the east of the country, comfortable warmth will continue. On Friday it will be +19…+23°C, without precipitation. Over the weekend, at night +12…+15°C, during the day +20…+25°C. On Monday, there will be rains with thunderstorms, temperatures from +19 to +24°C.
In Kharkiv during the weekend variable cloudiness, air temperature at night +12…+14°C, during the day +22…+24°C, no precipitation expected. On Monday – deterioration of weather: daytime temperature will drop to +20°C, rains will occur, with a northwesterly wind of up to 6 m/s. Hot weather up to +27°C in Kharkiv is possible in the middle of the week.
In the south of Ukraine from May 21-24 without precipitation. On Friday, the air temperature is expected to range from +17°C in Odessa region to +20°C in Kherson region. Over the weekend, spring warm weather will be up to +25°C. At the beginning of the workweek very sunny, with north, northwesterly winds of up to 5 m/s, air temperature +20…+25°C. Significant temperature increase to +29°C is forecasted by Wednesday.
In the northern regions of Ukraine, on May 21 air temperatures will be +17…+19°C, on Saturday +20…+21°C, with no rain. On Sunday, May 23, from +15°C to +19°C, rains will occur, only Sumy region will be lucky with a temperature of +22°C and without precipitation. But on Monday rains will reach Sumy, and in other northern regions, on the contrary, they will stop, with temperatures expected up to +21°C.
In Kyiv on May 21, in the second half of the day, there will be a lot of sun, but the temperature will not rise above +18…+19°C, a moderate northwesterly wind will blow. Over the weekend, daytime temperatures will be +20…+21°C, night temperatures will rise to +15°C from Saturday to Sunday. On Saturday – cloudy with clear spells, on Sunday overcast, in the second half of the day, heavy rain is expected. On Monday, May 24, during the day there will be no precipitation, the air temperature up to +21°C.
