Hands-On Engine Build Program Returns for Chevrolet Corvette
Owners of new Chevrolet Corvette sports cars in the Z06, ZR1, or upcoming ZR1X models will have the opportunity for a unique experience. The manufacturer is once again offering customers the chance to personally participate in assembling the engine for their car. This opportunity, which existed previously, is officially returning for the 2026 model year.
To become a participant, buyers need to select the special option code PBC when ordering the car. After that, they gain access to the production center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. There, under the guidance of an experienced master technician, they will assemble the very same powertrain that will later be installed in their Corvette.
History and Offer Details
The program was already planned for a return back in 2023, specifically for the Corvette Z06 model. At that time, Chevrolet announced a price of $5,000 for this experience, but the launch was postponed. Reportedly, the reasons were the complexity of the engine design and disruptions in supply chains, leading to an indefinite delay. The final participation cost for 2026 has not yet been confirmed by the company.
We know that when you help build the heart, every revolution feels personal, so roll up your sleeves and come get your hands dirty (gloves actually), working alongside our master assemblers to put together the foundation of our favorite Corvette: its engine.
This information was confirmed by Corvette Plant Director Ray Tierno via LinkedIn.
Technical Features and Bonuses for Participants
The Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X models use the same 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine, but in different configurations. In the Z06, it is naturally aspirated, providing high maximum RPM and sharp response. The ZR1 and ZR1X models receive the same block but with twin turbochargers, taking performance to a whole new level.
Program participants will receive not only unforgettable impressions. They will also be presented with an individual engine plaque, a photograph commemorating the assembly process, and an exclusive gift, the details of which Chevrolet has not yet revealed.
This initiative provides car enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to look inside the process of creating their dream car. Despite the experience likely remaining paid, it offers an unprecedented level of immersion and personal connection with the technology. Similar programs have become an important part of marketing high-performance cars, where emotional value and exclusivity often weigh no less than technical specifications. They transform a purchase from a transaction into a personal story that the customer creates together with the manufacturer.
