Police pursued a stolen BMW M4 at 210 km/h, which was then torn in half by a road sign

Thieves in a BMW M4 were torn in half during a police chase in Florida

Video released by the police shows a stolen BMW M4 being cut in half after colliding with a road sign on a highway in Florida. The white convertible was being chased by police when it skidded onto the shoulder.

Investigators linked the driver and passenger to a criminal group involved in fraud and car theft amounting to about $3 million.

We have seen dozens of photos and videos of BMW M4s being wrecked since the model debuted over ten years ago, but we have never seen a car so damaged that it was cut in half, until now.

Recently released footage from a police helicopter shows a stolen BMW M4 Convertible speeding at over 160 km/h on a highway in Florida before crashing into a road sign support. The impact tore the car in half, it burst into flames, but both passengers miraculously survived.

How the chase unfolded

According to News 6, the chase took place back in August 2025, but the video was only released now as part of court proceedings in a case involving a large-scale luxury car theft operation in Central Florida. Initially, the M4 owner used the built-in GPS tracking system to help locate the stolen vehicle. Police found the BMW in the city of Longwood, where two men were trying to raise the soft top while removing items from the cabin. Spotting the police, they fled, leaving the roof half-raised.

Instead of pursuing only from the ground, police called in a helicopter from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, which monitored the BMW from above, relaying coordinates. The video shows the white convertible maneuvering through traffic, crossing lanes, driving on the shoulder, and at one stage accelerating to 210 km/h, despite the trunk lid acting as a giant air brake.

The grass is rarely stable

After a brief exit from Interstate 4, the driver returned to the highway and continued maneuvering, trying to overtake slower cars on the right shoulder. The BMW lost traction, skidded sideways onto the grass, and crashed at full speed into a concrete road sign support.

The impact was like an explosion. The M4 convertible was literally cut in half, debris scattered across the road, and the remains of the car immediately caught fire. The helicopter footage shows the exhaust system lying on the grass, and one of the orange leather rear seats of the BMW ended up in the middle of the highway.

Despite everything, both passengers survived, although they were injured. The driver, D’Mavuko Fugar, was behind the wheel when police arrived at the scene, and his passenger, Edrick Bush, was found 10 minutes later in nearby trees using the police helicopter’s thermal imager. They were arrested, and according to investigators, they were involved in a criminal group that stole 33 luxury cars worth over $2 million. Together with credit card fraud found in the stolen cars, the damages from the operation amount to nearly $3 million.

As reported by Deputy Sheriff Sean Fitzgerald, the criminals targeted everything from BMWs and Mercedes G-Class to Ferraris and Lamborghinis. He also revealed a shocking detail:

“In total, there were 33 incidents in this area, and in all of these cases, people left their keys in the car.”

This incident serves as another reminder of the danger of reckless actions and the consequences of criminal activity. It is striking that even after such a horrific collision, which literally tore the car in half, both criminals remained alive. This shows how strong modern cars can be, but also emphasizes that luck is not always on the side of those who break the law. Furthermore, the fact that owners of expensive cars often leave their keys in the vehicle makes them easy prey for criminals, which is a serious warning for all drivers.
