Polestar 5 Unleashes Nearly 900 Horsepower and Features That Could Worry Porsche

Key News Highlights

Polestar 5 Details

There hasn’t been much news about the Polestar 5 lately, but detailed specifications seem to have leaked ahead of the car’s launch this year. Furthermore, it appears we can expect two Launch Edition versions.

While everything should be taken with a grain of salt, the Polestar 5 Long Range Dual-Motor Launch Edition is apparently set to start from £90,000 in the UK. It is reported to be well-equipped with adaptive pixel LED headlights, frameless windows, and two-stage windshield wipers. Customers can also expect digital side mirrors, soft-close doors, and 20-inch wheels.

Inside, drivers will likely find a 9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, and a 9.3-inch head-up display. These will be complemented by heated front seats upholstered in bio-attributed MicroTech material. The luxury car is also said to have a four-zone climate control system, 15W wireless smartphone charging, aluminum or black ash wood trim, and a 12.9 cubic foot trunk.

Additional Options and Performance

If the standard model isn’t enough, there will be several additional options. They are said to include Nappa leather, a microsuede headliner, and a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

A 112 kWh battery pack is expected to power the all-wheel-drive system with two motors, producing 738 hp and 599 lb-ft of torque. This configuration could allow the model to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 155 mph. Customers can also expect 350 kW DC fast charging capability and a WLTP range of 416 miles.

Performance Launch Edition

If that’s not enough, the Performance Launch Edition for approximately £104,835 could raise the stakes with an upgraded dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 872 hp and 749 lb-ft of torque. If the latter figure is correct, it would be a significant improvement over Polestar’s initial estimate of 664 lb-ft.

Thanks to the additional power, the 0-62 mph acceleration could drop to 3.2 seconds. Unfortunately, the range might also decrease to 351 miles.

Beyond greater speed and power, the Performance version is said to feature a sports suspension with semi-active dampers. These could be complemented by larger 21-inch wheels, as well as additional equipment including the aforementioned microsuede headliner and premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

Thanks to MM for the tip!

These leaked data indicate that Polestar is seriously intent on competing with manufacturers like Porsche in the luxury electric vehicle segment. With such specifications and capabilities, the Polestar 5 could become a true player in the market, especially given its potential availability in various configurations to meet different buyer needs.
