Polestar has announced a recall of 3,665 Polestar 3 electric vehicles in the United States due to a technical malfunction related to the rearview camera. The manufacturer stated that the problem can be resolved with a remote software update for the affected vehicles.
According to the report, the rearview camera does not display on the multimedia system screen by default when the reverse gear is engaged. Furthermore, if the vehicle is moving forward at a speed of less than 16 km/h after the last use of the reverse gear, the system may display an incorrect 3D image instead of the camera view.
“Polestar was notified of a potential issue on February 10, 2025, after receiving a report from the NHTSA regarding three instances of camera failure,” the company’s statement says.
Similar Problems with Other Brands
This is not the first case of camera issues in vehicles related to Geely. Previously, Volvo also announced a recall of over 400,000 vehicles in the United States due to a similar problem. The affected models include the S60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, XC40, and others.
The Polestar 3 vehicles subject to the recall were manufactured between March 2024 and April 2025. Owners will receive a notification about the update by July 1, 2025. Polestar emphasized that the fix will be free of charge and can be installed either through a dealer or remotely.
This situation could become a serious challenge for Polestar, especially considering that their Polestar 4 model does not have a rear window at all and relies entirely on the camera. If problems arise with this model as well, the consequences could be significantly more serious.
