Porsche Announces a New 911 Version
Porsche has scheduled the premiere of a new modification of the legendary 911 sports car for April 14. The official announcement is accompanied by only one teaser image, which naturally fuels numerous speculations among auto enthusiasts. The most widespread theory suggests the appearance of a model named the 911 GT3 Sport Cabriolet. This name sounds somewhat unusual even for the Stuttgart-based company, which already has a very branched naming system for its cars.
Officially, brand representatives describe the novelty as
“a particularly fun sports car from Zuffenhausen”
, whose appearance will be presented in an “entertaining film” shot in Tenerife. The choice of the Canary Islands for the presentation indeed points to a cabriolet, confirming the latest rumors.
Expectations and Controversies
A certain consensus regarding the expected novelty has already formed on fan forums such as Rennlist. It is anticipated that this will be a car based on the GT3, combining the well-known high-revving engine, manual transmission, soft folding roof, and its own, unique aerodynamics.
For some purists, placing the GT3 badge on a cabriolet is a true violation of the canons. Others see it differently, believing that the GT3 Sport Cabriolet could become an alternative to the Speedster model, but without the incredibly high development costs that usually accompany the creation of such special versions.

Previous Hints and Possible Technical Details
Previously published spy photos showed a lightly camouflaged 911 Cabriolet with wide fenders, whose appearance strongly resembles the limited edition 2023 911 S/T. This model, let us recall, combined the 4.0-liter engine from the GT3 RS, a six-speed manual transmission, extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), and tuning oriented towards public roads rather than the racetrack.
The teaser itself remains very mysterious, showing a 911 under a cover. However, one can make out LED optics, a more aggressive front bumper, and a “clean” rear end without a fixed wing.
Place in the Lineup and Future Premieres
To date, the 992.2 generation already includes a huge number of models: Carrera, Touring, S, 4S, GTS, Targa, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, and GT3 Touring. However, room for expansion still remains. Rumors are circulating about the possible appearance of a GT3 Sport Touring, a new iteration of the 911 Dakar, an updated GT3 RS, and even another version of the GT3 RS at the top of the hierarchy.

We won’t have to wait long for answers. Porsche plans to unveil the new model during an online broadcast on April 14 at 16:00 Central European Time.
The appearance of a cabriolet with GT3 attributes could become an interesting experiment for the company, aimed at expanding its audience. It is an attempt to offer the ultimate thrill of open-top driving without sacrificing the sporting character inherent in the most hardcore 911 versions. The success of such a product will depend on how successfully the engineers managed to balance the weight of the added roof structure with the demands of dynamics and handling. A market niche for such a car exists, as it could become a compromise between the extreme track-focused GT3 and more luxurious open-top versions, such as the Targa or standard cabriolets.
