Boat with Porsche Engine Sets Speed Record
Porsche continues to impress with its electric vehicles, but this time the record was set on water. A boat with an engine identical to the Macan Turbo Electric showed impressive results at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge.
This project is the result of a collaboration between Porsche and Frauscher. The 8.67-meter-long boat uses a hull from the Frauscher 858 Fantom but with an electric drivetrain from Porsche. Although the power is slightly lower than that of the Macan (536 hp vs. 577 hp), it showed excellent dynamics on water.
Technical Features
In Sport Plus mode, the boat reaches speeds of up to 56 mph, but at the competitions in Monaco, it showed an average speed of 57 mph. The range is limited: 62 miles at low speed or 28 miles at optimal cruising speed.
The boat is available in two variants: the Runabout with a classic design and the Air with an open relaxation area. The cost of such a vessel is about 571,000 euros, which is five times more expensive than the Macan Turbo Electric.
This project demonstrates how Porsche’s technologies can be adapted for different types of transport. Although the boat cannot compete with a car in terms of range or top speed, it offers a unique experience for water adventure enthusiasts. The collaboration between the automotive and shipbuilding companies opens up new possibilities for innovation in the field of electromobility.
