Powerful Dodge Charger with V8 Engine May Appear Sooner Than Expected

Dodge May Bring Back the Legendary Hemi V8 for the Charger

After the unsuccessful retirement of the iconic Hemi V8 engine, Dodge is looking for ways to bring it back to its lineup. The engine has already returned to Ram models, and now there is talk of its possible use in the new Charger. This is partly due to weak interest in the electric Charger Daytona version.

Dodge CEO Matt McAlear confirmed that the STLA Large platform allows for a flexible approach to engine selection:

“We were not limited to one technology or one type of powertrain. This platform was designed with future changes in mind.”

Which Engine Could Return?

If Dodge does decide to bring back the V8, likely candidates are the 5.7-liter or 6.4-liter versions of the Hemi, which are already used in the Durango. The latter seems more likely due to its power of 475 hp. However, there is also the possibility of the super-powerful 6.2-liter Hellcat returning, although its installation could be more technically challenging due to the presence of a supercharger.

Interestingly, the current 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six Hurricane engine already offers up to 550 hp, which calls into question the need to bring back the V8. Nevertheless, for many brand enthusiasts, the characteristic sound and character of the Hemi remain key factors when choosing a car.
