Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09: Sporty sedan prepares for launch
At the beginning of this year, at the Beijing Auto Show, Volkswagen presented a range of new models, including the ID. Unyx 09. This car was developed jointly with Xpeng, but the manufacturer did not reveal many details at the time, except that sales would start later this year.
Ahead of the launch, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published detailed specifications of the model. Two variants will be available: the base version will get a rear electric motor with a power of 308 hp (230 kW / 313 hp).
Customers will also be able to choose an all-wheel drive version, which adds a front motor with a power of 188 hp (140 kW / 190 hp). Thus, the total maximum power will reach 496 hp (370 kW / 503 hp).
Both versions have a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h) and use a lithium iron phosphate battery from CATL. Since the powertrains are likely borrowed from the ID. Unyx 08 model, it can be assumed that the 09 model will receive batteries with a capacity of 82 and 95 kWh.
Design and dimensions
Since we have already seen the car before, it is worth noting that it looks very aggressive and attractive, making the ID.7 look boring. The menacing front end features split headlight units and a subtle “shark nose.”
The sporty style continues further: darkened front pillars, muscular bodywork, and a smooth roofline. This is complemented by a panoramic glass roof and 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels.
At the rear, thin taillights are installed, connected by a red Volkswagen logo in the middle. A wide trunk and a black bumper with an integrated diffuser are also visible.
Dimensions and weight
The ID. Unyx 09 has a length of 200 inches (5,081 mm), a width of 78 inches (1,980 mm), and a height ranging from 59.4 to 60 inches (1,509-1,526 mm). The wheelbase is 119.3 inches (3,030 mm). The curb weight varies from 4,866 lbs (2,207 kg) to 5,086 lbs (2,307 kg).
For comparison, the model is 4.7 inches (119 mm) longer than the ID.7 and has a 2.5-inch (64 mm) longer wheelbase.
Thus, the new Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 will become not only a powerful but also a spacious electric vehicle that can compete with the best representatives of the segment. Its aggressive design and high technical characteristics will likely attract the attention of buyers looking for a sporty and modern electric car. The collaboration with Xpeng allowed Volkswagen to bring a technologically advanced product to market faster, meeting the demands of the Chinese market, which is key for the development of electric vehicles.
