Tuning Package Presentation
The Honda Civic Type R has ceased sales in Europe but remains available in other regions, including Japan, where it shares the showroom space with the hybrid Prelude coupe. For those seeking more expressiveness, Mugen now offers a tuning package that provides sharper contours, more powerful brakes, and a louder exhaust.
Mugen Dials Up The Drama For New Prelude Coupe
Package Details
The Group.B body kit was first presented at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 after its conceptual debut last year. Mugen has now detailed the prices and availability of each part. The cost of these upgrades can almost double the price of the Japanese hatchback, indicating a focus on dedicated enthusiasts with deep pockets.

Upgrade Components
Front-end modifications include front bumper extensions with a prominent splitter, a hood with ventilation ports, and GT3-style vents on the front fenders. These transition into sharper side skirts, a larger rear wing with a complementary spoiler, and a diffuser framing the central exhaust pipe.
Mugen claims the package provides approximately three times more downforce compared to the standard configuration, while simultaneously reducing the car’s weight by 38 kilograms through the use of carbon fiber.
Technical Improvements
Under the hood, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine remains mechanically untouched but receives a carbon fiber engine cover with the Mugen logo. The titanium exhaust system reduces weight by another 8.75 kilograms and promises a slight increase in mid-range torque, although it’s unlikely anyone will notice.

The Japanese tuning firm also offers upgraded brakes, designed for more powerful braking and better endurance during track sessions.
Upgrade Costs
The front splitter, rear diffuser, and side skirts cost 1,500,000 yen each. The carbon fiber hood is priced at 1,200,000 yen, the rear wing at 1,000,000 yen, the spoiler at 200,000 yen, and the vented fenders at 800,000 yen.
Those wishing to get the full package must spend an additional 1,000,000 yen for the brake kit, 750,000 yen for the titanium exhaust system, and 180,000 yen for the carbon fiber engine cover.
The total sum reaches 9,630,000 yen. This is a significant amount, considering the price of the Civic Type R itself in Japan ranges from 4,997,300 to 6,179,800 yen. Thus, a fully equipped car with all Mugen upgrades can cost over $100,000.
Availability and Prospects
If the price doesn’t scare you, Mugen reports that the components will be gradually introduced by 2026, and delivery times may vary due to limited production.
This project demonstrates how a tuning atelier can transform a mass-produced car into an exclusive product, but at a very high price. Such offerings are often aimed at collectors and racing enthusiasts who are willing to invest in uniqueness and performance, despite the economic impracticality. Similar initiatives also highlight the sustained demand for high-performance versions even after official sales have ceased in key markets.
