Daihatsu has introduced an updated version of the Taft model for the Japanese market. This happened six years after the debut of this kei crossover. The update includes two new special editions, improved technologies, and an expanded set of safety systems.
New special editions for an active lifestyle
The company’s goal is to maintain the model’s competitiveness against the updated Suzuki Hustler and Mitsubishi Delica Mini. To achieve this, Daihatsu expanded the lineup with two new trims: Rugged Venture and Active Mode. They are based on the top-tier G and G Turbo configurations and are aimed at buyers with an active lifestyle.
The Rugged Venture version features a special radiator grille and tailgate trim finished in Smoked Chrome and Black colors. The model is equipped with 15-inch gunmetal alloy wheels, with similar accents present inside the cabin.

The Active Mode version received the same components but looks more restrained due to darker finishing. For those who want to add color, an optional Active Mode Style package is available, which adds orange accents to the radiator grille, profile, wheels, fog lights, and reflectors.

Despite the update, the standard Taft lineup received no design changes. The only innovation was the addition of Spark Orange to the color palette.

Inside, the kei crossover received a digital instrument panel with a 7-inch display and clearer graphics, although the 9-inch multimedia system remains an option. Another important update is an improved safety package with new sensors that meet Japanese regulations. The Taft can now detect cyclists, oncoming traffic when turning right at intersections, and pedestrians crossing the road when turning in any direction. The maximum speed threshold for the pedestrian collision avoidance system has been increased to 80 km/h, while adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist have been recalibrated for smoother operation.

Prices for the updated 2026 Daihatsu Taft in Japan start from ¥1,435,500 (about $8,800) for the most affordable front-wheel-drive version with a naturally aspirated engine and reach ¥1,930,500 (about $11,900) for the fully equipped special Active Mode version with a turbo engine and all-wheel drive.
