The American studio AddArmor has performed an unusual tuning of the Ferrari 458 Speciale. The Italian supercar was decided to be armored. However, the protection of the Ferrari 458 Italia is quite modest. The doors are fitted with composite panels and multilayer bulletproof glass 20 mm thick. That’s all.
However, such armor provides B4 protection, meaning it can withstand shots from 9 mm or 44 Magnum caliber pistols. The armor itself weighs 70 kg, but the Ferrari supercar received a new lightweight exhaust system, which increased its weight by only 30 kg. In addition, the Ferrari 458 Speciale tuning includes engine improvements. The power of the 4.5-liter V8 increased from 605 to 645 hp. So, the armored supercar did not become slower and still reaches a speed of 325 km/h.
The cost of armoring is $28,000. AddArmor stated that their primary goal was to protect the owner of the supercar from armed carjackers. They also mentioned that they are ready to armor other supercars.
