Citroen will showcase the production version of the new C5 Aircross SUV on April 29. This model will feature a fully electric powertrain for the first time. The interior highlights a floating center console with a portrait-oriented infotainment system. Citroen is preparing to unveil the new generation of the C5 Aircross with powertrain options including electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid. The French automaker has revealed several exterior and interior details of the SUV in official teasers, announcing the global premiere for April 29.
We are already quite familiar with the exterior of the new Citroen C5 Aircross thanks to patent images that appeared online this year. The SUV closely resembles the concept but features smaller wheels, conventional door handles, and thicker pillars. Interestingly, the production model retains the protruding LED taillights and aerodynamic wheels from the concept, adding a touch of French eccentricity to this family car. Drawing parallels with its siblings, the Opel Grandland and smaller models like the Citroen C3 Aircross/Opel Frontera, it’s safe to assume the Citroen C5 Aircross will likely inherit heavily cushioned ‘comfort’ seats. This will pair with Citroen’s unique suspension tuning, maintaining a focus on comfort, a hallmark of its predecessor.
Additionally, we expect fresh technological features from the group and slightly improved practicality due to slightly larger dimensions. We already know the Citroen C5 Aircross will be based on the STLA Medium architecture, already popularized by the Peugeot 3008/5008 and SUV. The same platform is used by the DS No8 and will likely also underpin the more premium DS No7 (the successor to the DS7). The new foundations will allow Citroen to offer an electric version under this name for the first time. Alongside the EV, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions will also be available, as well as non-electrified combustion engines in some markets.
The expected discontinuation of the model after the current generation concludes means the C5 Aircross will eventually become the flagship offering in Citroen’s lineup. The company has announced a special event called the ‘Citroen Electric Show,’ indicating that the electric variant of the SUV will be the first to debut.
