Headrest Problem Forces Jeep to Recall Over 120,000 SUVs

Major Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall Due to Headrest Issues

Jeep has announced a recall of over 121,000 Grand Cherokee SUVs due to a potential malfunction in the second-row seat headrests. In the event of a crash, they may not meet safety requirements regarding height, which increases the risk of passenger injury.

The issue affects 43,241 Grand Cherokee L vehicles manufactured from May 2023 to January 2024, and 78,157 standard Grand Cherokees from the same period. The manufacturer reports an “interference condition” in the headrest locking mechanism but does not specify the details.

Due to this malfunction, the headrest height may be less than 750 mm, which does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards

Separate Chrysler Pacifica Recall

Simultaneously, the company announced another recall affecting only 21 Chrysler Pacifica minivans from the 2024-2025 model years. In these vehicles, the rearview image may not display when the reverse gear is engaged. Interestingly, the manufacturer did not provide an explanation for the cause of the problem but noted that all affected vehicles have already been repaired.

Jeep Grand Cherokee owners will receive recall notifications in September, and dealers will replace the faulty headrests. This situation highlights the importance of constant quality monitoring even in such mass-produced models. Problems with rearview cameras, as in the case of the Pacifica, are becoming increasingly common in the automotive industry, which may indicate the complexity of integrating new technologies into mass production.
