Sale of Dodge Black Ghost Proves That Certain Challengers Have Higher Value

Special versions of the Challenger called ‘Last Call’, created as a farewell series for this iconic car, have all the attributes that make them valuable to collectors. However, recent auction results show that some modifications are valued higher than others. Among them, the Black Ghost stands out, gradually becoming one of the most sought-after variants.

The manufacturer limited the production of the Black Ghost to 300 cars, developed based on the powerful Hellcat Redeye modification. The first owner paid $104,865 for the right to own this rare model. Although demand for such cars has somewhat decreased over the past year, this particular Black Ghost example was recently sold for $120 thousand at the Bring a Trailer auction, bringing the owner a $15 thousand profit.

The Black Ghost model was created as a tribute to the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE, once owned by Godfrey Qualls – a legendary figure who participated in street races along Woodward Avenue in the 70s. This particular example initially belonged to FCA itself and was used for marketing purposes before being purchased by the current owner last year. The car was sold with a mileage of only 86 miles (138 km), a clean history according to Carfax, and Michigan documents.

Like all Black Ghost models, this Challenger has a glossy black paint with a white stripe on the rear. Under the hood is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine from the Hellcat Redeye, producing 807 horsepower and 965 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

Over the past year, several more Challenger Black Ghosts have been sold on Bring a Trailer. One with only 12 miles on the odometer went under the hammer last July, another was sold in October 2023, and one more a month before that. Although this particular example did not reach such high prices, it was still sold for almost twice the price of a regular Challenger SRT Hellcat sold in April.

It is obvious that these cars continue to be in demand, despite some price fluctuations.
