Ford’s U.S. Electric Vehicle Sales Fell 40% Last Month

Despite Ford’s billions in investments in electric vehicle development and the overall growth of the EV market, the American automaker’s sales continue to fall. To overtake competitors like GM and Hyundai-Kia, not to mention challenging the leader Tesla, the company urgently needs to find ways to increase electric car sales in the domestic market.

Ford’s recent sales figures look quite bleak. In April, the company sold only 4,859 electric vehicles nationwide, which is 39.4% less than in April 2023. In total, 27,409 EVs were sold in the first four months of 2025, which is also 2.9% lower than the same period last year.

The main reason for the sharp decline in sales was the rapid drop in popularity of the Mustang Mach-E. In April, only 2,927 units of this model were sold – 40.2% less than last year. However, interestingly, since the beginning of the year, Mach-E sales have still increased by 0.4% (14,534 cars).

A noticeable decrease in demand for the F-150 Lightning pickup is also evident: 1,740 units were sold in April compared to 2,090 a year ago. Overall, since January, sales of this model have fallen by 9.2% (8,927 cars). The E-Transit electric van showed even worse results – only 192 sales (-81.5%).

Unlike electric vehicles, Ford’s hybrid models show positive dynamics. In April, 23,331 hybrids were sold (+29.6%), and since the beginning of the year – 74,404 units (+31.9%).

With the exception of electric cars, Ford’s total sales in the U.S. for the four months increased by 3.2% (709,966 cars) compared to 687,671 cars in the same period of 2024, despite difficulties in the automotive industry due to the imposition of Trump’s tariffs.
