Honda Prelude Sales Increased by 38%, Surpassing Subaru BRZ Figures

The overall sales of Honda’s American division in February present a mixed picture. On one hand, total sales volume increased, but on the other — sales of Honda-branded vehicles themselves slightly decreased, while the Acura brand showed solid growth. The gradual ramp-up of deliveries of the new Honda Prelude coupe after a cautious start is noted separately.

Honda Prelude Sales Dynamics

The new Honda Prelude, priced at $42,000, began its market life quite slowly, but a gradual increase in volumes is now being observed, despite attempts by some dealers to obtain additional profit through significant markups. This contributed to a 38.4% sales increase in February compared to January, despite fewer working days.

Before getting too excited, it’s worth noting that Honda sold only 299 Preludes last month.

This, however, is a noticeable improvement compared to 216 cars sold in January and 174 in December. Another interesting fact is that the hybrid coupe outsold the Subaru BRZ last month, whose dealers managed to sell only 277 units.

This is, of course, a small victory, as the Prelude is still barely noticeable against the overall backdrop. In total, Honda sold 97,226 vehicles in February, which is a slight drop of 0.5% compared to the same period last year.

Leaders and Laggards Among Honda Models

The updated Passport SUV continues to gain popularity, and its sales increased by 35.7% to 4,746 units. The facelifted Pilot showed growth of 2.5%, and the Ridgeline — 22.2%. Among other models showing positive dynamics are the Accord (23.1%) and CR-V (3.8%).

On the other hand, the electric Prologue continues to feel the consequences of the cancellation of federal tax incentives. Its deliveries fell by 63.6%, and since the beginning of the year, the decline is 74.1%.

The HR-V and Odyssey also had a difficult month: sales fell by 26% and 13.2% respectively. Both models are also showing a decline since the start of the year, which is not a big surprise.

Positive Acura Dynamics and Structural Issues

Acura sales increased by 17.3% to 10,936 units, mainly due to strong sales of the compact crossover ADX. This model quickly became the brand’s second best-selling vehicle after the MDX.

Despite the growth, several models in the Acura lineup remain with a questionable future. The TLX and ZDX are effectively discontinued, but dealers still managed to sell 367 such cars. They will soon be joined by the RDX, whose production will cease later this year.

It is reported that the model will return in 2028, and Acura has already confirmed that it will receive a hybrid powertrain. However, the temporary absence of this model will leave a significant gap in the lineup.

The overall picture of Honda’s U.S. sales in February 2026 indicates a transitional period for the company. The success of new and updated models, such as the Passport and ADX, contrasts with the significant difficulties of the electric Prologue and aging models like the HR-V. The slow but steady sales growth of the Prelude, despite marketing challenges, may indicate the formation of a loyal audience for this niche model. The brand’s future, especially in the electric vehicle segment and in the context of the temporary discontinuation of key Acura models, will require strategic decisions to maintain competitiveness.
