Maserati sales have plummeted, Alfa’s lineup is outdated — now both brands will get four new cars

Stellantis presents plans for Alfa Romeo and Maserati by 2030

During the update of its FaSTLAne 2030 strategy, Stellantis outlined plans for the next five years, which will prove to be very busy for most of the brands under its umbrella. The program includes the release of 60 completely new models and 50 updates across the entire portfolio. To the surprise of those who had already written them off, Alfa Romeo and Maserati are also on this list.

New Alfa Romeo models: a compact crossover and an exclusive model

Alfa Romeo’s contribution includes two models that stand apart from the long-awaited replacements for the Stelvio and Giulia. The first is a new C-segment crossover. The second is a limited-edition top-end model. Both were shown under wraps during the official presentation, although a render of the crossover layout briefly appeared in the webcast.

The currently unnamed model has a sporty look, raising questions about whether Alfa Romeo will revive the Giulietta name. It features aggressive LED lighting, a larger-than-usual Trilobo grille, and an aerodynamic roofline. Overall, it seems to fill the gap between the subcompact Junior and the compact Tonale, potentially competing with models such as the Cupra Formentor, VW T-Roc, and Toyota C-HR.

Like most Stellantis products, the future C-SUV will most likely be offered with hybrid and fully electric powertrains. It is also expected to feature the new STLA SmartCockpit infotainment system.

Exclusive Alfa Romeo model and Maserati plans

The other new Alfa Romeo is a “Bottega Fuoriserie” product, which will be a continuation of the limited 33 Stradale series. However, unlike the mid-engined supercar, this model appears to have a hatchback or shooting brake body style. It will likely evoke the style of a classic model from Alfa Romeo’s history and share a platform with Maserati.

More Maserati models

Speaking of the Maserati brand, it will expand its lineup with an SUV and a grand tourer, both positioned in the E-segment. The first will likely be the successor to the discontinued Levante, positioned above the Grecale, which will soon receive a facelift along with the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

The other model has a low silhouette with a long hood and a grand tourer stance, reminiscent of the Ferrari 12Cilindri. Its sharp nose resembles the 2016 Maserati Alfieri concept, but its dimensions appear larger. The rearward-set cabin and sloping roofline suggest it will have a two-seat interior, unlike the 2+2 layout of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

Although there is no information on technical specifications yet, we expect the Maserati E-segment models to be equipped with internal combustion engines rather than taking the electric route.

The announced Stellantis plans indicate that the company is betting on expanding the model ranges of its premium brands despite a challenging market situation. For Alfa Romeo, this is an attempt to strengthen its position in the compact crossover segment, which is one of the most competitive, as well as to support the brand’s image with exclusive models. Maserati, for its part, is trying to revive interest in itself after a sales decline by offering new models in its traditional segments, but with an emphasis on gasoline engines, which could be both an advantage for a certain audience and a risk in an increasingly electrifying world.
