In April, Mazda reported its second-highest April sales volume in the U.S. in its history.
Demand for vehicles surged by 21% as buyers rushed to purchase vehicles ahead of an expected price increase.
For Mazda, import tariffs pose a serious threat, as the company is largely dependent on supplies from abroad.
Due to the upcoming tariff increase, car prices are set to rise sharply, which prompted consumers to actively purchase expensive goods. Many automakers felt this surge, including Mazda, which increased its sales by 21% in April compared to last year. A total of 37,660 vehicles were sold, with the aging CX-5 being the sales leader – it was purchased by 12,590 buyers.
The CX-50 model also showed good results with a 48.4% sales increase to 7,753 units. The CX-90 also demonstrated positive dynamics – its sales increased by 46.2% to 5,402 crossovers. For this model, April was a record month, while the CX-30 and CX-50 showed their second-highest figures for this month.
Overall, since the beginning of the year, Mazda’s sales have increased by 12.8% to 147,976 vehicles. All models except the CX-30 showed positive dynamics – its sales fell by 24.5% compared to the same period last year.
In addition to new cars, Mazda recorded high demand for certified pre-owned models. In April, their sales increased by 9% – 6,855 units were sold.
Despite a successful April, the company may face difficulties due to its dependence on imports. Research has shown that 81% of Mazda vehicles are imported, making the brand the third most at risk after Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo. Future tariffs could significantly impact the company’s business, although the situation remains unstable.
