Mazda sales soared by 683%, while other brands experienced a decline in May

Unexpected decline in May

After several years of steady growth, Mazda faced an unexpected drop in sales in May 2025. The total sales volume amounted to 28,937 vehicles, which is 18.6% less than in May 2024. The decline in popularity of the MX-5 Miata (-62.9%) and CX-30 (-47.9%) is particularly striking. Even the flagship CX-5, which remains the most popular model, lost 24.6% of sales.

However, there are bright spots. The new CX-70 showed rapid growth—683.1% compared to last year—though it still lags behind the CX-50 (+14%) and CX-90 (-12%).

The overall picture remains positive

Despite the May decline, the overall figures for the first five months of 2025 show a 6.1% increase (176,913 vehicles). The CX-5 leads with 56,501 units sold, followed by the CX-50 (38,243) and CX-30 (31,622).

Interestingly, the MX-5 Miata, despite its catastrophic May, still increased sales by 9.3% over five months. This suggests that the decline may be a temporary phenomenon, possibly related to anticipation of updates or changes in market conditions.
