Nissan reported its sales results for the second quarter of 2026. The group’s overall figures (Nissan and Infiniti) increased by 9.6% compared to the same period last year, reaching 242,741 vehicles. This was driven by a model lineup renewal that has been ongoing for several years. The Nissan brand has shown 16 consecutive months of retail sales growth.
Nissan’s Successes: Crossovers and Sedans
Nissan vehicle sales in the second quarter rose by 10.2% to 230,443 units. The most popular model remains the Rogue crossover, which sold 65,796 units. This is 38.6% more than a year ago. Demand is expected to grow further after the arrival of an updated version with the new e-Power hybrid system later this year.
The updated Sentra sedan also showed significant growth — its sales jumped by 28.5% to 39,817 units. Meanwhile, a 26.5% drop in Altima sales partially offset this success.
Sports Models and EVs: Declining Demand
Sales of the Nissan Z sports coupe fell by 50.7% — to 806 units. The reason may be anticipation of the updated 2027 model year version, which will arrive at dealers this summer with a refreshed design and improved equipment. The Nismo version will receive a new six-speed manual transmission.
The Leaf electric vehicle, despite high fuel prices, demonstrated a 36.6% drop in sales — just 1,016 vehicles for the quarter. Overall, Leaf sales have fallen 57.1% year-to-date.
Pickups and SUVs: Growth Leaders
Among pickups and SUVs, several models showed impressive results. Frontier sales rose by 34.6%, Pathfinder by 32.1%, and Armada by 27%. Even the Murano added 6.4% in the second quarter. The Kicks crossover, although not receiving monthly statistics, recorded its best June ever, and its quarterly sales grew by 4.9%.
Infiniti: Stability Thanks to New Models
Sales of the premium Infiniti brand in the second quarter remained almost unchanged, declining by only 0.2% (29 vehicles). This is quite unexpected, given that the QX50 and QX55 models were discontinued. Their place has been successfully filled by the new QX65 crossover, which aims to revive the spirit of the legendary FX.
The QX65, built on the basis of the larger QX60, starts at a price of $53,990. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 268 hp and 286 Nm of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. This model found 1,256 buyers. However, the brand’s leader remains the QX60 with 7,581 vehicles sold. The flagship QX80 posted its best second quarter ever, increasing sales by 18.5% to 3,402 units, although its year-to-date figures are 9.4% lower.

Overall, the second quarter of 2026 was a period of contrasts for Nissan. The main brand shows confident growth thanks to the popularity of crossovers and pickups, while electric vehicles and sports models are losing ground. Infiniti, despite a difficult transition period with model lineup replacement, managed to keep sales at a stable level thanks to the new QX65. This indicates that the lineup renewal strategy is gradually bearing fruit, although not without difficulties. Particularly noticeable is the sharp drop in sales of the Ariya electric vehicle, which could indicate problems with demand or production, as well as a general cooling of the EV market in the United States.
