Toyota has introduced the updated Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid for the 2027 model year. The new models feature dual-zone climate control and a new body color called Inked. The price of the vehicles has increased by $205 for all trims, with the starting price at $28,755.
Sales decline and minor updates
Toyota Prius sales are falling sharply: in the first six months of the year, Americans purchased only 19,518 units. This is 42.3% less compared to the same period last year, and this is happening against the backdrop of rising gasoline prices due to the war in Iran.
Unfortunately, the automaker should not expect significant help from the 2027 model, which has received only minimal changes. Specifically, a new body color Inked has appeared, as well as a new standard dual-zone climate control.
Prices and technical specifications
Apart from these minor changes, the price has increased by $205, starting from $28,755 excluding a delivery fee of $1,295. This increase applies to all trims: LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited.
Recall that the Prius is equipped with a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 194 hp (145 kW / 197 PS) and allowing the model to achieve fuel consumption of up to 55 miles per gallon in combined cycle. The all-wheel drive variant has 196 hp (146 kW / 199 PS), but fuel consumption increases to 53 miles per gallon.
Prius Plug-in Hybrid
If that is not enough, there is the Prius Plug-in Hybrid version. It mirrors the standard model: the 2027 variant has received dual-zone climate control and the new Inked body color.
The price starts at $33,980, which, unsurprisingly, is $205 more than last year. This increase also applies to the XSE, Nightshade, and XSE Premium trims.
Although the changes are not significant, the car features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors and a 13.6 kWh battery pack. This gives the stylish hybrid a total output of 220 hp (164 kW / 223 PS) and an electric-only range of up to 44 miles. When the battery is depleted, the car simply operates as a regular hybrid with fuel consumption of up to 51 miles per gallon in combined cycle.
2027 Toyota Prius Prices
2027 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Prices
- Prius SE: $33,980
- Prius XSE: $37,230
- Prius Nightshade: $38,000
- XSE Premium: $40,675
The 2027 update for the Toyota Prius looks more like a technical adjustment than an attempt to drastically change the market situation. Despite the drop in sales, the company is not introducing any revolutionary changes, limiting itself to standard dual-zone climate control and a new color. This may indicate that Toyota is betting on other models or is preparing a more significant update for the coming years. Amid rising fuel prices and increasing competition from electric vehicles, such minor changes are unlikely to significantly impact demand, although the Prius hybrid technology remains one of the most efficient on the market.
