Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently promised to step back from his role as the unofficial head of the Department of State Efficiency, and it seems he is already preparing to exit. According to information, the eccentric businessman is no longer working at the White House on a permanent basis.
Although his status as a special government employee was always temporary, the period of collaboration is ending sooner than expected. However, Musk has not left completely yet – White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles reported that they now communicate by phone, but it achieves the same result.
This is ironic, given Musk’s negative attitude towards remote work and the government’s decision to return federal employees to offices. Recently, the businessman frequently appeared at the White House and even attended cabinet meetings, including today’s.
According to media reports, this visit resembled a farewell tour – Musk thanked President Trump for the opportunity to work with an “incredible cabinet” and stated that his department had saved 160 billion dollars. Previous similar statements have repeatedly been a subject of controversy.
Trump, in turn, expressed gratitude to Musk, noting that he had “sacrificed a lot” and had been a victim of unfair treatment. To which the businessman jokingly replied: “Well, they like to set my cars on fire, which isn’t very pleasant.”
While Musk is preparing to return to corporate activities, administration representatives emphasize that his department’s work is not yet complete. He is expected to become an informal advisor, and it is obvious that his opinion continues to be important to the president.
