Vandalism Against Waymo Robotaxis in Los Angeles
In Los Angeles, protesters destroyed several Waymo autonomous vehicles by spray-painting them with anti-government slogans and setting them on fire. The company has temporarily suspended the operation of its robotaxis in the city due to these incidents. The National Guard has already arrived to ensure order.
As reported, the attacks on the autonomous vehicles occurred on Sunday around 5:00 PM. The protesters not only damaged the vehicles but also used homemade incendiary devices. Police were forced to block off part of the streets and declare the gathering unlawful.
Waymo’s Response
Waymo representatives stated that they do not believe their vehicles were a specific target of the protests, but rather “accidental witnesses to the events.” However, this is not the first time the company’s autonomous vehicles have been the object of attacks. Similar incidents have been recorded in San Francisco previously.
“We do not believe our vehicles were a specific target, but they found themselves in the epicenter of events”
In addition to the destruction of the robotaxis, a video has appeared on social media showing a Tesla Cybertruck with anti-government graffiti circling an intersection while flying a large Mexican flag. The circumstances of this incident remain unclear.
Such acts of vandalism not only cause material damage but also pose a safety threat due to potential toxic substance emissions from the burning electric vehicle batteries. Local residents have the right to peaceful protests, but such actions only escalate the situation and divert attention from the real issues.
