Prepare for a Radically New BMW X5 M Design

Updated Design of the 2027 BMW X5 M

BMW is preparing updates for its entire model range, including the popular X5 M. The new design, inspired by the Neue Klasse concept, will bring a more modern and unified look for both electric and conventional models. The first novelties will be the second generation iX3 and the electric i3, which will replace the traditional 3 Series.

Artist Nikita Chuiko has created renders of the future X5 M, which will receive a radically new design. Instead of massive radiator grilles like those on the M3 and M4, the new model will have more compact vertical grilles and LED headlights integrated behind black panels. The front bumper design has become more aggressive, with large air intakes, and the door side panels appear more fluid.

If the renders prove accurate, the new X5 M will have a more sporty appearance than the current model, although some fans might miss the brutal style of its predecessor.

Technical Expectations

Under the hood, a hybrid version of the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 S68 engine, already used in the XM and M5, is expected. This powertrain is set to deliver over 700 hp, making the new X5 M one of the most powerful SUVs in its class.

The rear of the car has also undergone changes – thin LED taillights have replaced the thick units, while the black diffuser and quad exhaust pipes remain. Traditional door handles will disappear, replaced by touch-sensitive panels on the window frames.

The standard X5 version is likely to debut in 2026, while the more powerful X5 M will appear no earlier than the first half of 2027. This brings BMW closer to a fuller transition to a new design language that combines elements of classic and modern trends. Given the growing competition in the premium SUV segment, such updates become key to maintaining the brand’s position.
