Five Supercars Destroyed by Fire That Broke Out in a Tow Truck

Fire on Car Transporter Destroys Five Supercars

A tragic incident occurred during the annual Crown Rally from Boston to Atlanta – five supercars burned in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Only thanks to a quick-witted driver who noticed smoke and alerted the transporter driver, the consequences could have been even worse.

Event Details

The incident occurred last Thursday. The driver of the transporter, which was carrying two McLaren 720S, a C8 Corvette Z06, a C8 Corvette Stingray, and an Audi R8, was driving on the highway when another motorist informed him about smoke coming from the trailer. The driver immediately stopped at a QuickTrip gas station and called the firefighters.

Photos published by the Chattanooga Fire Department show the trailer’s interior completely destroyed by fire

Aftermath of the Fire

Despite the quick response, emergency services failed to save the vehicles. The former collection of supercars turned into ruins, where only one of the Corvettes remained barely recognizable.

Investigation into the Cause

The fire department has not yet named the exact cause of the fire, but according to preliminary data, the fire may have started closer to the center of the trailer. A preliminary version suggests the ignition could have occurred due to a technical malfunction of one of the cars. The total damage is estimated at approximately $1.5 million.

According to preliminary information, the sports cars were being transported after a track day at Atlanta Motorsports Park, which was part of the rally program. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Similar incidents with transporters carrying cars occur regularly. Just last month in California, several new Teslas were damaged during a fire on a car transporter. However, cases of exclusive supercars burning remain rare and attract particular attention.
