Preparation for the Launch of the New Ram Pickup
Ram is preparing to launch a new midsize pickup, which is planned to be introduced in 2027. This information was confirmed by Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa during the Kepler Cheuvreux conference in Paris. The new model will become a competitor to vehicles such as the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, and Toyota Tacoma.
First Details on Construction and Design
According to Filosa, he personally saw the model at the Stellantis design center in Detroit, and it impressed him with its beauty. This will be the first Stellantis midsize pickup for the American market since the discontinuation of the Dodge Dakota in 2011. The new model will likely be built on a body-on-frame platform, distinguishing it from lighter unibody constructions like the Honda Ridgeline.
“Two weeks ago, it was in our design center in Detroit, and I saw the (truck) itself, not only the sketches and designs but the clay model. And it’s just beautiful.”
Technical Features and Potential Engines
The pickup is expected to be available only in a four-door crew cab version. Under the hood, Hurricane inline-six engines will most likely be installed, which can develop up to 540 horsepower, while base models will get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 270 horsepower. This makes the model attractive to buyers looking for a powerful yet affordable midsize pickup.
Differences from Other Stellantis Models
The new model will not be related to the Dakota sold in South America. Instead, it will likely use a platform similar to the one used in the Jeep Wrangler. This will ensure high strength and the ability to carry heavy loads, which is key to competing with the Ranger and Tacoma.
Potential Market Impact
The launch of the new pickup could significantly strengthen Ram’s position in the midsize pickup market, which remained incomplete after the discontinuation of the 1500 Classic. It will also allow the brand to reach new groups of buyers looking for more compact, yet still powerful and reliable vehicles. The model’s price category is expected to start at approximately $33,000, making it an affordable alternative for those not ready for the costs of full-size pickups.
Given that the midsize pickup market continues to grow, Ram has every chance to establish itself in this segment. Competition from Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota remains fierce, but with a good platform, powerful engines, and attractive design, the new model could become a serious player. Furthermore, the use of proven Stellantis technologies will allow offering buyers a reliable product that meets their expectations.
