Unique sketches of fantastic cars developed by the designers of the Zaporizhia Automobile Plant in the 50s-60s have leaked online. They were published on Facebook by the director of the Zaporizhia Museum of Weapons Roman Akbash.
The rarest images were collected by the ZAZ car architect Leonid Levit. The projects of Zaporizhia’s designers have very little in common with serial ZAZ cars. Most of the cars are done in an American style. They have huge rear fins and a lot of elements in an aerospace style. By the way, many of the cars feature bodies made from innovative fiberglass of the time.
Some cars strongly resemble concept cars from the 50s, which were very popular at various car shows in the USA. Most of the cars are coupes and convertibles (there’s even a ZAZ coupe-convertible), although sedans and even a minibus styled like the famous “Start” from “Kidnapping, Caucasian Style” can be found.
We understand, of course, that in the USSR these projects could not even theoretically be realized in metal (or plastic), but still the work of Ukrainian designers is impressive.
By the way, do you know that one ZAZ sports car was actually made and even considered for mass production?
