In Kyiv, a rare 1997 Mercedes-Benz G 36 AMG was photographed. This is the short-wheelbase three-door version of the G-Class SUV in the W463 body, which was produced in a limited series. In total, about 120 such cars were built. The photo was published on the Instagram account Topcars UA.

Mercedes-Benz G 36 AMG received a naturally aspirated engine with 258 hp

The basis for the Mercedes-Benz G 36 AMG was the production Mercedes-Benz G 320. AMG specialists increased the displacement of its inline six-cylinder M104 engine from 3.2 to 3.6 liters.

After refinement, power increased from 210 to 258 hp, and torque from 300 to 385 Nm. At the same time, the engine remained naturally aspirated, without turbocharging.

The dynamic characteristics of the Mercedes-Benz G 36 AMG also improved:

The Mercedes-Benz G 36 AMG was produced from 1994 to 1997. According to the Broad Arrow auction house, total production was approximately 120 cars. Short-wheelbase three-door examples are especially rare.

Interestingly, the Mercedes-Benz G 36 AMG was equipped with the same 3.6-liter M104-family engine that was used in the Mercedes-Benz C 36 AMG. However, for the heavier SUV, power was reduced from 280 to 258 hp by changing the engine’s characteristics.

The model also received permanent all-wheel drive with three differential locks. A significant portion of the Mercedes-Benz G 36 AMG produced was intended for the Japanese market.
