Record-breaking Porsche electric car once again exceeds expectations

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT sets a new record

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT continues to impress with its results on race tracks. At Road Atlanta, driver Patrick Long set a time of 1:27.15, which is a full 6.73 seconds better than the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S model. This demonstrates how seriously Porsche approached the development of this electric model.

The record run used the version with the optional Weissach package, which removes the rear seats, making the car a two-seater. The car was also fitted with special high-grip Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires, developed specifically for this model.

I expected good feedback from the steering, but I didn’t expect the active suspension to so effectively compensate for roll, dive, and squat

Comparison with other models

Although the Taycan Turbo GT has not yet caught up with the absolute record among production cars (1:22.80, set by the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1), it posted a time close to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (1:26.24). This is an impressive result for an electric sedan.

This model has previously set records on such famous tracks as Laguna Seca and the Nürburgring. Recently, competitors have begun to take some records away from Porsche, which seems to motivate the German manufacturer to continue improving its electric models.

The results of the Taycan Turbo GT show that electric cars can already compete with the best sports models on race tracks today. It is especially impressive that this is a four-door sedan, not a specialized sports car. Active suspension and power distribution technologies allow such heavy electric vehicles to achieve results that were recently considered impossible.
