Renault to update its compact electric model after similar model from Nissan

Renault Megane E-Tech update in 2026

Renault is preparing a significant update for the electric Megane E-Tech in 2026. This model, which resembles a hatchback in its characteristics, will receive a more modern design and updated battery packs to remain competitive in the market.

The company has already made some changes to the model, such as one-pedal driving function and Vehicle-to-Grid mode, but the real update is still ahead. Test prototypes in camouflage have shown that the front part of the car will be completely redesigned, with thinner LED headlights and a new radiator grille.

Technical changes

The most important updates will concern the batteries. Instead of imported LG batteries with capacities of 40 kW and 60 kW, the model will receive new batteries from AESC, which will be produced in France. This will allow increasing the range beyond the current 470 km.

The interior is likely to remain almost unchanged, as the Megane E-Tech is already equipped with a modern digital dashboard and the OpenR multimedia system based on Google. Fast charging may be updated to 150 kW.

The presentation of the updated model is expected at the end of 2025, with sales starting in 2026. In parallel, Renault is already working on a completely new generation of the Megane E-Tech, which may appear closer to 2029.

Despite the fact that the Megane E-Tech remains an important model for Renault, its update may become key for competing with new electric cars that are actively entering the market. The French manufacturer is betting on localizing battery production, which could make the model more attractive to European buyers.
