Renault Kiger Update for the Indian Market
Renault Kiger has received an update to strengthen its position in the segment of compact SUVs under 4 meters in length in India. The model has received redesigned bumpers, improved cabin noise insulation, and six airbags as standard. The car retains its affordable gasoline engines, and prices now start from 6.30 lakh rupees.
Stylish Changes and Technologies
Following the recent update of the Renault Triber minivan, attention has switched to the Kiger. This compact model has received a mid-lifecycle update, which includes a more expressive design and modest technological improvements, while maintaining its budget price category.
The Kiger first appeared on the market in 2021, targeting the competitive segment of sub-4-meter SUVs, which continues to actively develop in India. After four and a half years, this update is intended to keep the model relevant among new competitors.
Exterior and Interior
The most noticeable changes occurred at the front: the redesigned bumper features a thinner grille, a more pronounced skid plate, and textured details. The layout of the dual headlights is preserved, but additional fog lights have now been added.
The profile has remained almost unchanged, although Renault has added new graphic elements on the doors and C-pillar, as well as new 16-inch alloy wheels for the top trim. The rear bumper is also redesigned with a different skid plate and faux air intakes.
The cabin layout has remained largely unchanged, but now features a white dashboard trim, updated upholstery materials, the latest Renault logo on the steering wheel, and improved noise insulation for a quieter ride. The familiar 8-inch multimedia screen remains, but in higher trims it can be combined with features such as a 360-degree camera, Arkamys audio system, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats in the Emotion trim.
The base Authentic trim does not have these features, as it has a small storage compartment instead of the display, and the steering wheel lacks buttons. At least, all trims now have six airbags, a hill-start assist system, and rear parking sensors.
Engines and Pricing
Built on the CMFA+ platform, the Kiger continues to use the same non-turbo gasoline engines and front-wheel drive. The standard engine is a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter three-cylinder producing 71 hp, while the turbocharged variant delivers 99 hp. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual, an optional AMT for the base engine, and a CVT for the turbo version.
The updated Renault Kiger is already available for order in India. Prices for the base Authentic trim with the naturally aspirated engine and manual transmission start from 6.30 lakh rupees, which is only 15,000 rupees more than its predecessor. On the other hand, the top Emotion trim with the turbo engine and CVT costs 11.30 lakh rupees.
The Kiger’s competitors in the sub-4-meter SUV segment include models such as the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Exter, Citroen New C3, Nissan Magnite, Suzuki Fronx, and others.
The Renault Kiger update reflects the general trend in the Indian automotive market, where compact SUVs remain extremely popular among buyers looking for a combination of style, practicality, and an affordable price. The increase in standard safety and comfort improvements could significantly enhance the model’s competitiveness, especially among family clients who value additional features without a sharp increase in cost.
